Enhancing
Fish
Passage

The Wynkoop Creek Project

The existing culvert was steep and had a substantial outlet drop.  This presented a severe blockage for juvenile fish passage.

Seneca Jones Timber Company, in conjunction with ODFW and Umpqua Watershed Council formulated a strategy for replacement of this culvert.

The culvert was removed during the Summer of 2000 so that Winter storms could help restore the stream channel to a more natural gradient.  The stream banks were rip-rapped and grass-seeded to minimize erosion during the Winter.

The newly-installed culvert is a 100-year event sized bottomless structure on concrete footings.

This design allows easy fish-passage for juveniles and adults with no inlet or outlet barriers and a natural streambed.
