Forest Facts MYTH:  We need old growth for oxygen generation.

Did you know that old growth forests create carbon dioxides and absorb oxygen from the atmosphere?  A forest practice that maximizes growth will also maximize oxygen creation.

   
Facts about Wood   Wood products make up 47% of all industrial raw materials made, yet consume only 4% of the energy consumed by all industrial materials. It takes 3 times more energy to make a 10-foot by 100-foot steel wall as it does to make the same wood wall.

It takes 25 times more water to make a 10-foot-by 100-foot steel wall as it does to make the same wood wall.

Carbon dioxide emissions are 3 times as great for a 10-foot by 100-foot steel wall as they are in the same wood wall.

Wood is 16 times more efficient as an insulator as concrete, 415 times as efficient as steel and 2,000 times as efficient as aluminum.    Source:  Evergreen Magazine
