To assist us with our forest management policy, Seneca has developed and implemented a state-of-the-art Geographical Information System (GIS).  

This GIS system not only works to serve the foresters’ day-to-day needs, but also, more importantly, allows us to answer long-range planning and administrative questions.  The GIS system’s digital map base is directly linked to our timber inventory management system.  

This linkage, along with the GIS modeling capabilities, allows for spatial analysis at the local and global scale.  Such computing capabilities are a necessity in today’s forestry environment if one is to properly manage for all the important components of a viable, healthy ecosystem.

Following are two photographs of the same property.  One taken in 1964, and the other in 1999.  As you can see, the trees which were replanted following the 1964 harvest have grown once again into a healthy forest.
